Reno 911 Trailer Review
By Staff of LMI Published February 5, 2007
I'm not a fan of the show, but the trailer does have a flow. It's not boring. For a PG-13 trailer there are enough hints that it'll be foul and raunchy.
Jason: Was this the same trailer that was before Borat? I remember it being funnier. Other than the whale part, I didn't think any of it was funny.
Lee: I think it seemed funnier to some people at the time because of how amped everyone was for Borat.
Jason: I agree, I think there was also a pre-show advertisement for it that helped to set up the trailer.

Jason: Like what parts? I wonder how many people will think this is just Police Academy 11 or whatever they're at now.
Lee: Well there are gay overtones, and I can imagine sex and drug references. And the whale gag is there to pump up the gross-out factor. They do a pretty good of making them look ruthlessly dumb through the editing and music.
Jason: I remember the Suge Knight got a lot of laughs.
Lee: Yeah. In the trailer online, it cut to black when they drew all their guns, like it was edited out.
Jason: Did it not do that in the theatrical version?
Lee: Nope, they showed it in theaters.
Jason: That's strange. I didn't remember if it did that then, but it did seem awkward just now for them to fade out like that.
Lee: I wonder if they got busted.
Jason: Is there some MPAA rule about the number of guns shown in a PG-13 movie?
Lee: Well there's also the race factor; a party of black thugs with dangerous weapons.
Jason: That's a good detail to pick up. The fading out doesn't hide that.
Lee: I bet some would claim the whale gag is even too much.
Jason: That's my favorite part.
Lee: What annoys me about this movie is that it looks like they're so close to being funny and aren't quite there yet. But I think the preview has some of the same energy behind it that both Jackass's did in terms of the editing styles and getting the fan base pumped.
Jason: Jackass is much more outrageous though.
Lee: This is more obnoxious.
