Weekend Outlook: Dupree & Little Man
By Lee Tistaert Published July 13, 2006
Dupree might end up playing like Guess Who with a weekend take of $19 - 21 million, while Little Man should be the same and could potentially overtake it.
This weekend You Me & Dupree and Little Man might face off for second place as Pirates will lunge for $200 million. The comedy duo will be targeting different audiences ? Dupree will aim for the young date crowd while Little Man is likely to lure in the Wayans? brothers usual fan base, and also has the advantage of being a family release.
Ads in recent months for Dupree have displayed plenty of goofball material for an Owen Wilson movie, and the actor/comedian will be testing his true star-power following the $210 million domestic finish of Wedding Crashers last summer. It was made clear with The Break-Up?s performance that Vince Vaughn was the big reason for Crashers? surprise success, as Wilson had the luxury of bouncing off Vaughn?s animated performance.
As hot as Owen might be right now, the Wayans brothers are opening Little Man on Friday as opposed to Wednesday when they released White Chicks (which amassed $27.2 million in five days). That could give Little Man a stronger per-screen average right away, but hitting the heights of Disney?s Pacifier ($30.6 million) is looking unlikely since Little Man?s theater count is much smaller. Dupree might end up playing like Guess Who ($20.7 million) with a weekend take of $19 - 21 million, while Little Man should be about the same and could potentially overtake it.
