Click & Waist Deep: Booking Comparisons
By Lee Tistaert Published June 20, 2006
Booking comparisons for Click and Waist Deep.
Theater booking comparisons for Click and Waist Deep are below. Theater counts are listed beside the titles, followed by the Fri, Sat, Sun grosses and daily averages, and weekend gross and weekend average.
An interesting note about Click, I discovered that the biggest opening day per-screen average a Christopher Walken movie has had thus far is America's Sweethearts at $3,680 - followed by Wedding Crashers at $3,572/screen. Walken hasn't starred in a movie that has hit $4,000/screen on its first day, but then again, he also hasn't starred in an Adam Sandler movie yet either. Click is not likely to reach the heights of Sandler's last tentpole, The Longest Yard, as that comedy also featured Chris Rock and appealed to an older crowd (rather than kids). Mr. Deeds might be a pretty good comparison for silly movies, but the story's Bruce Almighty-like edge could lift it into the mid-$40's.
Rogue Pictures has been advertising Waist Deep for a while now, and with the very gritty and in-your-face ads, the feature should play fairly strongly in urban markets. Tyrese has a strong track record for this kind of material, as 2 Fast 2 Furious ranked in at $50.5 million (even though it was already a franchise), while last year's Four Brothers grossed $21.2 million (in 2,533 theaters), and his earlier work with John Singleton, Baby Boy, earned $8.5 million. Though Annapolis only grossed $7.7 million, James Franco wasn't a solid lead, and the movie lacked the intense hip-hop edge that Waist Deep has been given. The Friday per-screen average for Waist Deep should be $2,500 - 3,300 or so in 1000 theaters, and so a weekend of $7.5 - 9.0 million is likely.
