A 3-day weekend of around $17.0 million could be in the works, but up to $22.0 million is not out of the question.
Coming in with an impressive opening day Wednesday gross of $8.6 million, The Princess Diaries 2 outdid the original?s opening day Friday figure of $8.2 million ($3,221 per-screen), though that was in 400 fewer theaters. Though part two surpassed Freaky Friday?s Wednesday haul of $6.0 million ($2,217 per-screen), Princess Diaries is also a sequel like Legally Blonde 2 in which its core audience might rush out right away, leaving less over the weekend.

Blonde 2 scored $9.1 million on its Wednesday for $2,730 per-screen in 3,350 theaters, fell 22% (to $7.1 million - $2,131 per-screen) on Thursday, and grossed $6.1 million ($1,831 per-screen) on Friday. Its 3-day weekend of $22.1 million was helped by a robust 54% increase to $9.4 million on Saturday (4th of July weekend), but Friday did not share the same jewels as Wednesday.

Princess Diaries 2 will be an interesting one to watch, as it doesn?t have the holiday benefits that Legally Blonde 2 was blessed with, but it is a similarly respected story amongst its young female fans. PD2?s Thursday intake could be between $5.0 - 6.5 million, putting Friday?s chances at around $6 - 8 million in 3,472 theaters, or even a little bigger than its Wednesday haul (given the upgraded count) as a possibility (and if not on Friday, possibly Saturday). A 3-day weekend of around $17.0 million could be in the works, but up to $22.0 million is not out of the question.
